• About Chida Utsav

Since long (500 years past), Panihati is famous for a great festival called Chida Utsav Dando MahotsavĚ. This festival of bliss has an immense religious value for the Vaisnavas. The festival is organised in the Month of Jaistha / Ashar on Shukla Troyodoshi Tithi or June Month every year. This year it is held on 18th June, 2016. This festival is held at the River bank of the Ganges at Mahotsob tala Ghat.

The Chida-dahi Mahotsav (Chipped Rice Festival or Dando Mahotsav) of Panihati, is a yearly celebration of the pastimes of Srila Raghunatha dasa Goswami and Lord Nityananda Prabhu,. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and his associates enjoyed many transcendental pastimes here. Chida-dadhi Mahotsav remembers how the Lord mercifully reciprocated with His devotees by arranging, through Nityananda Prabhu and Raghunatha dasa, to provide an ecstatic feast of yoghurt and chipped rice, along with various other nectar foodstuffs. Chaitanya-charitamrta, Antya lila chapter 6, describes this wonderful pastime in detail. Click to view Historic Referances
